I sort of anticipate, Finished it in one day.

And what was "King Victor" really after? Miss Marple and Chief Inspector Battle find a coded message in the dead man's pocket, and uncover the dark secret of chimneys. The spy story... the many suspects... the romance.... Much fun to be had!

A thick fog of mystery, cross purposes, and romance, which leads up to a most unexpected and highly satisfactory ending. That said, I was disappointed with The Secret of Chimneys. Agnes Robert Dunbar. Consequently, the relationships between the two men and Virginia were very unconvincing. It introduces Superintendent Battle and a handful of other characters that appear in later stories (especially The Seven Dials published in 1929) and the international thriller/mystery plot is interesting enough. Anthony heads for London to deliver the draft of a memoir to a publisher, and to return letters to the woman who wrote them. Christie gives no description of “Chimneys” in the book, merely stating that "Descriptions of that historic place can be found in any guidebook.”[15]. I find little to add to the positive reviews of this early light-hearted effort by (later) Dame Agatha. The stories are clever and complex and the characters are interesting. Refresh and try again.

Directed by John Strickland. I love this story! The story begins when Anthony Cade is given a manuscript to deliver to London by his old friend Jimmy McGrath, along with some letters to be returned to a blackmail victim. And how I wish there were more books about Superintendent Battle.

Hiram P Fish, collector of first editions, invited to the house party by Lord Caterham [an American agent on the trail of King Victor], Herman Isaacstein, financier of a British oil syndicate, Miss Genevieve Brun, French governess for Lady Eileen's two younger sisters Dulcie and Daisy [former Queen Varaga of Herzoslovakia].

The Secret of Chimneys is a work of detective fiction by British writer Agatha Christie, first published in the UK by The Bodley Head in June 1925[1] and in the US by Dodd, Mead and Company later in the same year. I had to because there was no guessing how received and how viewed this book was.

Reviewed in the United States on September 10, 2020, Published in 1925 it is not Christie’s first book but it has all characteristics of being written by a juvenile author which Christie herself describes as follows; “like all young writers, I was trying to put far too much plot into one book. I wish them to be a testimony of my admiration for her art, and above all, of my gratitude for her loving kindness through all the years I have known her".
