This pedal is an absolute beast – no doubt about it. I totally agree. This is cutting into my session. I'm impressed with this pedal, so far. Wow it's amazing, I can't believe I have this pedal, the sound is amazing even with my cheap yamaha erg 121 c guitar and my roland blues cube it ROCKKSSSss! The dials are solid and smooth. ! This pedal delivers !! Whilst there are some great distortion pedals out there, not many get close to the MXR Super Badass in terms of sheer versatility. Really good/versatile pedal. High-gain distortion pedals typically create quite a lot of background noise. We were hoping for a bit more vintage EVH, but as it stands, this is still an exceptional overdrive pedal. It's that good. Clad in shiny and matt black, like emo Peter Parker in Spider-Man 3, the new EVH 5150 Overdrive was designed in conjunction with the man himself, Eddie Van Halen. Trust me, I'm not the only one who is saying: "This sounds way more than any overdrive pedal I've heard. AKA, it is over-designed.
This is a very versatile piece of kit.

Reviewed in the United States on May 5, 2019. This is what my sound has been missing. I love this pedal! I can get anything from light blues to brutal riffage out of this box, with some simple tweaking of the knobs on the box and amp.

Anything above that and you get professional metal tone. The exchanged model, was worse, with multiple knobs in that fashion, so now I'm just returning for a refund. The EVH 5150 overdrive is a must have for guitar players, EVH heads, and tone hunting!

I didn't have huge expectations for this pedal since I already had an Ibanez TS-9 and I figured it would just be a little different coloring of the overdrive. I'm a cheapskate, I don't like peeling out $200 for a pedal, when there's another that does the same thing for $50. Out of the box, with the boost switch off and all the controls set around twelve o’clock the sound coming out of this thing is already massive.

It would have been handy to have the boost as a footswitch so you could kick it on mid-song – maybe MXR have plans to release a deluxe model with this feature.

I don't know how it does what it does, or how it sounds on other amps, but on my solid state Fender Champion 100 it really brought it to life! Word on the street is that even the man himself was unable to discern the difference between the pedal and his signature 5150 III head. That gate is a fantastic selling point, too. Looking to buy the MXR EVH 5150 Overdrive? It's a definite keeper for what I play. Add a little more treble and bring the gain to 12 and you’ve got a classic sounding distortion.
